Date Set for Demolition of the Former Cliffemount Hotel
We are delighted to confirm that a date has been agreed for the former Cliffemount Hotel to be demolished.
On August 19th, 2024, contractors will commence the set-up of the site and move on to completing internal works in the following weeks.
Once the internal works are completed, the external demolition can then be started. It is estimated that the entire demolition process will take around eight weeks.
In the coming days, residents of Runswick Bay who are located along the access route will be receiving a letter outlining what to expect.
Our Managing Director, Melissa Tomlinson, has written an additional message for all residents and visitors to Runswick Bay below.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us whilst we put the preparations in place for demolition to go ahead and to those who have congratulated us on the progress of our project. It means a lot to have the support of the community.
We are aware that following our announcement, you may have questions surrounding the demolition and what to expect, so I wanted to offer some clarification.
Whilst August 19th is the date in which the contractors will first go on site, the process isn't as simple as knocking down the building. The actual date when the external building begins to be taken down will be during the first half of September. In the first few weeks, the contractors will be focused internally.
When the contractors begin working on site, some vehicles will be wanting access and we know this may be a concern, however, we envisage that this won't mean a constant flow of traffic to and from the site all day. Due to the scale of the project, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that there will not be any disruption. However, we know that at the end of the project when Cliffemount opens, it will hugely benefit the local community.
I appreciate that some residents may have concerns with regards to the date being towards the end of the Summer Holidays, however, please note we have limited control over this date due to the fact that multiple contractors are involved, and various legalities take this date into account.
Please be reassured, as demonstrated in our initial community consultation, that we have tried to consider the community and the impact on residents throughout each stage of the process.
I hope that this information clarifies what to expect. But, if you do have any questions, please reach out to me via email on mtomlinson@cliffemount.co.uk for a direct conversation. Thank you.”
Further information regarding the demolition timeline will be issued shortly.
As it progresses, we will continue to share regular updates with you.
